    1936 - 2020

Hazel Irene Patton Clary passed away on December 5, 2020 after a long illness. She was born October 16, 1936 in Columbus, Kansas to the late James Ralph Patton and the late Hazel Louise Jennings Patton. She was the 7th of 10 children. She moved to Palacios, TX in 1952 and soon after met the love of her life, Emmett Clary. They were married on January 18, 1953 and were married for 45 years until Emmett’s death in 1998. They had 1 child, a daughter. Hazel was employed by Palacios ISD in 1962 and retired in 1993 as Cafeteria Manager at East Side Elementary.

Hazel enjoyed crochet, needle point, going to dances with her friends and was very active in her church, First Baptist Church, Palacios. She was known as “Nana” to her grandson Aaron and to many others around Palacios. She was beloved by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter Lola Brogley (Jim), her grandson Aaron Neubauer (Debra), her stepdaughter Louise Clary Day and her step grandson Phillip Day (Jennifer). She is also survived by several nephews and nieces as well as extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her husband Emmett Clary.  

Visitation will be on December 10, 2020 at Palacios Funeral Home from 1-2 pm. Graveside service will follow at 2pm at Palacios Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, tribute donations can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association.

Alfred

Alfred 'Buck' Burkett

    1927 - 2020

On Thursday, November 5, 2020, Alfred Marion “Buck” Burkett, loving husband, and father of three children, passed away at the age of 93.

Buck was born in Sour Lake, TX on February 21, 1927. He was a member of the Palacios, TX community, and the First Baptist Church, for approaching 75 years.

Buck enjoyed a loving marriage of 67 years to his Dorothy. Their family grew from three children to five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. In his life Buck was a WWII Veteran serving in the Occupation of Japan, a cowboy who loved to work cattle and ride horses, and he had a successful career of over 40 years with Sun Oil Company.  

Buck was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy and their son Alfred Jr. He is survived by daughter Cynthia and son Jeffrey. He will be missed dearly. Visitation will begin 9:00 am Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at First Baptist Church Palacios TX, followed by funeral services at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery.  Pall bearers are Charlie Michalik, Martin Janda, Ronald Linton, Tyler Burkett, Corbin Linton and Jeffrey Burkett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church in his memory.

Jewell Brister

     Jewel Brister

   1916 - 2020

Jewell Brister,104, of Elizabethton, TN, went home to be with the Lord , August 28, 2020 . She was born March 17, 1916 in Palacios, TX to Cecil Burns and Georgia Adorn Burns.

Jewell loved sowing, which lead to her career path as seamstress. She was a member of the First Baptist Church Palacios.

Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Aaron Brister, and grandson Troy Lynn Womack. Survivors include daughter, Sharron K. Kwiatkowski; grandchildren Aaron (Paige) Womack and Renya (Mark) Austin; great-grandchildren Courtney Austin, Brooke Austin, Renya (Tyler) Carrier, Troy Auston, Aiden Womack and Makenzie Womack; 3 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and relatives beginning at 9:00 am Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Palacios Funeral Home. Services will at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery.

  Monique Renee Richard

Monique Renee Richard

     1926 - 2020

Monique R. Richard, 94 of Blessing passed away May 31, 2020.  She was born January 13, 1926 in Publy, France to the late Paul Francois Sappez and Marie Marcelle Ferdinand Sappez.

Monique was married to the late Guy Pierre Richard on February 28, 1949 (68 years).

Monique had the opportunity to live in numerous countries and U.S. states where her husband worked at Nuclear Power Stations.  She enjoyed traveling and says she has seen the world.  Monique was known for her kind and loving heart, always looking for ways she could help people.

All of Monique’s direct family continues to live in France. She is survived by her Son, Michel Richard (Maguy); Daughter, Danielle Sainmont (Charles); Granddaughter, Helene Sainmont (Fred); Grandson, Damien Sainmont, and Great Grandchildren Quentin Asbert and Clement Asbert.

The family wishes to send a sincere Thank You to the caregivers who treated her with love, kindness, and the best care.  A special Thank you to Connie Cobb who Monique loved deeply and thought of as a daughter.

Visitation will be from 11:30 to 1:00 Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at Palacios Funeral Home. A Graveside service will follow at 3:00 at Hawley Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palacios First Baptist Church, 202 Main St. Palacios TX 77465.
